Manufacturing
Today, most high-volume manufacturing of battery technology is outsourced to countries outside the United States. Electro Energy is the only developer of advanced battery solutions that offers its customers high-volume domestic production of battery cells and components.
U.S.-based manufacturing is especially important for advanced battery systems that governments, municipalities, consumer goods companies and utilities depend upon for critical products and programs.
Having a U.S.-based manufacturer is important for customers who are concerned with protecting and managing their supply chain, including ensuring strict quality control, guaranteeing capacity and fast turnaround, and procuring customized solutions.
Electro Energy’s domestic manufacturing capabilities include:
Gainesville , Florida
In 2006, Electro Energy acquired a 200,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Gainesville, Florida. This facility is equipped for production of high volume, high quality, low cost Li-Ion electrodes and cylindrical cells for commercial applications. With the opening of the Gainesville facility, Electro Energy is the only U.S.-based high-volume manufacturer of cylindrical rechargeable Li-Ion cells.
The facility has the ability to produce over 30 million 18650 cells a year, and excess electrode capacity to produce over 1 million kWh of Li-ion batteries in cylindrical, prismatic and wafer cell formats for various markets and applications. This facility also has the ability to produce both bipolar NiMH and Li-ion batteries.
Manufacturing assets include:
- Hirano coating lines for Li-Ion production
- Fully automated electrode manufacturing capability for prismatic wafer design Li-Ion
- 12,000 sq ft Dry Room
- Proprietary and patented manufacturing processes
Electro Energy is the only domestic high-volume manufacturer of cylindrical rechargeable Li-Ion cells.
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Electro Energy's manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs, acquired from Eagle Picher in 2003, has a 30 year history as a trusted provider of high quality batteries for military aircraft, including the B-1 Bomber, B-2 Stealth Bomber, B-52 Heavy Bomber, Apache Helicopter and the Cobra Attack Helicopter. In addition, the Colorado Springs plant produces power sources for the space industry, including Super NiCd battery systems for satellites and nickel hydrogen electrodes for batteries powering the Hubble telescope and the International Space Station.
