18650 Battery

With current global demand exceeding 800 million cells annually, the 18650 type battery cells are the most widely purchased rechargeable Lithium-ion product in the world. Of this total global demand, the U.S. Military purchases about 10 million cells per year. The majority of the applications serviced by these batteries are from consumer electronics, including laptops, power garden tools, audio equipment, etc., and military-grade communications equipment. In recent years, 18650 batteries have surfaced as a high power, maintenance-free battery solution for the hybrid-electric vehicle market.

Until recently, 18650 battery cells could only be obtained from battery manufacturers located either in the Far East or Canada. Electro Energy Inc. has spent the past 18 months improving the Lithium –ion electrochemistry currently used to produce these cells. With its recent acquisition of Energizer’s 100,000 square foot state-of-the–art manufacturing facility in Gainesville, Florida, we now have the technology and manufacturing capabilities to become the “only large scale domestic source” for such batteries.

Today, Electro Energy Inc. offers several capacity sizes, all 18mm x 65mm in size. These capacities run from 1.9Ah-2.4Ah with our 2.2Ah and 2.4Ah cells, both having successfully completed UL and UN Certification Testing. In addition, this Electro Energy Inc. design offers the customer community the only available 18650 battery cell that contains a redundant safety mechanism. Considering that the Gainesville plant can produce 36,000,000 cells annually and four (4) times that number in electrode production capability, Electro Energy Inc. stands ready to accept orders from customers in need of a safe, high-quality alternative to foreign made 18650 products currently on the market.
